Age Limit and Relaxation

The age concession for Ex-Servicemen does not apply to those already recruited to any class or service. Candidates not belonging to SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BC(OBCM)s, and BCMs who have completed five years or more of service in the Government of India or a State/Union Territory are ineligible to apply, even if they fall within the age limit.

Application Fee and Payment Method

The preliminary examination fee of Rs. 100 must be paid when submitting the online application. The main examination fee of Rs. 200 is payable by shortlisted candidates who are not exempt, upon intimation from the Commission. Candidates belonging to special categories can avail fee exemptions as per eligibility criteria. The number of free chances availed in previous applications will be tracked. Making false claims for fee exemption will lead to rejection of candidature and debarment for one year. Candidates must carefully select the fee concession option ("Yes" or "No") as it cannot be modified later. Failure to pay the required fee by the deadline will result in the rejection of the application.

Payment can be made online via Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI by the last date for online application submission. Applicable service charges must also be paid. Offline payment methods like Demand Draft or Postal Order are not accepted, and applications submitted with such payments will be summarily rejected. Candidates should ensure successful online payment and check transaction status, retrying if necessary, as the Commission is not responsible for payment failures.

Selection Process

1. Preliminary Examination — This is an objective-type screening test. The marks obtained in the preliminary examination are solely for shortlisting candidates for the main examination and will not contribute to the final merit list. The Commission will qualify candidates based on minimum qualifying marks and reservation rules. Approximately 20 times the number of vacancies will be admitted to the Main Examination.
2. Main Examination — This stage consists of four descriptive papers. Paper I is a qualifying Tamil Eligibility Test, and candidates must secure minimum qualifying marks in it for Papers II, III, and IV to be evaluated. Marks from Papers II, III, IV, and the interview will be combined for ranking.
3. Interview — Candidates shortlisted from the main examination will be called for an interview. The number of candidates admitted to the interview will be two times the number of vacancies for reservation groups with five or more vacancies, and three times for groups with four or fewer vacancies. The interview carries 100 marks and assesses personality, bearing, aptitude, general knowledge, and technical knowledge. There are no minimum qualifying marks for the interview.
4. Medical Examination — A Medical Board will conduct a medical examination for all provisionally admitted candidates after the interview to verify their medical and physical standards. Post eligibility will be determined based on this report.
5. Counselling — Candidates will be allowed to participate in counselling based on their rank. The post chosen during counselling cannot be changed later.

Appearance in all papers of the Main Examination and the Interview is compulsory. Non-appearance in any paper will lead to non-consideration for selection. The final merit list will be prepared by combining the marks from Main Examination Papers II, III, IV, and the Interview, subject to reservation rules. In case of equal total marks, the older candidate will be ranked higher. If age is also the same, the candidate with higher marks in the main examination will be ranked higher. If main examination marks are also equal, the candidate who submitted their online application earlier (based on application number) will be ranked higher.

  Pay Scale and Benefits

  Candidates selected for the Combined Civil Services Examination – I (Group I Services) will be appointed to posts carrying a pay level of 22. This pay level includes various allowances and benefits as per the Tamil Nadu Government rules, resulting in a competitive gross monthly salary. The specific gross salary will depend on the exact allowances applicable at the time of appointment.

  How to Apply — Step by Step

  Candidates interested in applying for the TNPSC Group I Services 2026 must do so exclusively through the online mode via the Commission's official website, www.tnpscexams.in.
  1. One Time Registration (OTR): All new applicants must first register themselves on the One Time Registration (OTR) platform available on the TNPSC website. A registration fee of Rs. 150/- is required for OTR, which remains valid for five years. Existing registered candidates can directly proceed to fill the online application.
  2. Prepare Documents for OTR: For OTR, candidates need scanned images of their passport-size photograph (20 KB – 50 KB,.jpg format, taken within the last 3 months) and signature (10 KB – 20 KB,.jpg format), both with 200 DPI resolution.
  3. Aadhaar Linking: Linking the Aadhaar number with OTR is mandatory for all candidates. The Aadhaar details are used for identification and authentication purposes only.
  4. Furnish OTR Details Accurately: Candidates must provide correct SSLC Register Number, Certificate Number, Month and Year of Passing, Medium of Instruction, and Board Name during OTR. Any errors can lead to application rejection. If multiple SSLC mark sheets exist, details from the final attempt where SSLC was passed should be used. All other OTR details must also be accurate as they form the basis for subsequent applications.
  5. Online Application Submission: After OTR, candidates should click "APPLY" for the Combined Civil Services Examination – I on the Commission's website. They will use their OTR User ID and Password to log in.
  6. Verify OTR Details: Upon logging in, the OTR particulars, including the photograph, will be displayed. Candidates must verify these details. If any OTR details are incorrect, they should be corrected by clicking on "OTR Edit" before proceeding. Changes made in OTR will reflect in subsequent online applications.
  7. Upload Photograph and Signature: Candidates must upload a color passport-size photograph (4.5 cm height x 3.5 cm width, 170 pixels x 130 pixels) against a white background, taken on or after the notification date. The candidate's name and date of photography (1.5 cm height, 55 pixels) must be printed at the bottom. The image of the candidate should be 3.0 cm (115 pixels) in height. The photograph should be saved as "Photograph.jpg" (20 KB – 50 KB). The signature (6.0 cm x 2.0 cm, 230 pixels x 75 pixels) must be signed within a box on white paper using a blue or black ink pen, cropped to show only the signature, and saved as "Signature.jpg" (10 KB – 20 KB). Ensure clear images are uploaded in the correct dimensions and format.
  8. Fill Additional Details: Complete any additional details required for the specific recruitment application.
  9. Application Preview: Before final submission, candidates will have the option to preview their application. An SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number informing about the preview's availability. Candidates must carefully check all details and make necessary corrections using the "Edit" option before the last date.
  10. Final Submission and Fee Payment: An application is considered submitted only after clicking the "SUBMIT" button. After submission, candidates can pay the preliminary examination fee online. If online payment fails, candidates should check the transaction status and retry.
  11. Application Correction Window: After the last date for online application submission, an Application Correction Window will be open for three days (02 August 2026 to 04 August 2026). During this period, candidates can edit details in their online application. No modifications are allowed after this window closes.
  12. Print Application: Candidates should take a printout of their finally submitted application for future reference.

  Candidates are advised to apply well in advance of the closing date to avoid potential issues due to heavy website traffic.

  Documents Required

  Candidates must upload various supporting documents as specified in the notification. Failure to upload required documents or submitting defective ones will lead to rejection of candidature.
  • For Date of Birth Verification: Tenth standard (SSLC) or twelfth standard (HSC) mark sheet. If date of birth is not on these, Birth Certificate / Transfer Certificate / Degree Mark Sheets.
  • For Age Concession: Supporting documents for claiming age concession.
  • For Educational Qualification: SSLC / HSC / Diploma / Degree / PG Degree / Integrated PG Degree / Provisional Degree or Provisional Diploma Certificate / Consolidated Mark Sheet. If certificates are not yet issued, proof of publication of results from the institution/university.
  • For Equivalence of Qualification: Copy of Government order for equivalence, if applicable.
  • For Knowledge in Tamil: SSLC / HSC / Degree / PG Degree mark sheets showing Tamil as a subject/medium, or Second Class Language Test (Full Test) in Tamil certificate.
  • For Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD): Disability Certificate in the prescribed format (Form V, VI, or VII as applicable) issued by the competent medical authority. This certificate must contain the exact sub-category, affected body part, percentage of disability, and be valid as on date.
  • For Destitute Widow (DW): Certificate from the Revenue Divisional Officer or Assistant Collector or Sub-Collector concerned in the prescribed format. The date of demise of the husband must be on or before the notification date.
  • For Person Studied in Tamil Medium (PSTM): Evidence such as SSLC, HSC, Transfer Certificate, Provisional Certificate, Convocation Certificate, Degree Certificate, PG Degree Certificate, Mark Sheets, or a certificate from the Board/University/Institution confirming study in Tamil medium from 1st standard up to the prescribed educational qualification. If direct admission under RTE, a specific certificate is required. If school name changed, a certificate for change of school name is needed.
  • For Ex-Servicemen: Properly authenticated extract from Discharge Certificate (Bonafide Certificate) issued by Ex-Servicemen's Welfare Board and Pension Pay Order. Serving personnel due for completion within one year must upload an undertaking and a certificate from their Commanding Officer.
  • For Transgender Candidates: Transgender ID card issued by the Tamil Nadu Transgender Welfare Board.
  • For Community Certificate: Community certificate (citing father's/mother's name) issued by the competent authority (Taluk Tahsildar/Revenue Divisional Officer/Assistant Collector/Sub-Collector/Head Quarters Deputy Tahsildar/Special Deputy Tahsildar/Executive Deputy Tahsildar/Zonal Deputy Tahsildar) for SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC(OBCM), BCM categories.   • For Employment Details: Government employees must inform their employer in writing and produce a 'No Objection Certificate' (NOC) in the prescribed format when called for. Candidates securing employment after application submission must upload an NOC or an undertaking.
  • For Criminal/Disciplinary Cases: FIR or memorandum of charges/show cause notice for pending cases. Relevant court orders/release orders/memorandum of proceedings for conviction/acquittal. Any new cases after application must be reported.

  All uploaded documents must be clear and legible. The Commission will conduct onscreen certificate verification, and candidates must upload/re-upload documents within the stipulated time. Physical certificate verification will require original documents.

  Pay Scale and Benefits

  Candidates selected for the Combined Civil Services Examination – I (Group I Services) will be appointed to posts carrying a pay level of 22. This pay level includes various allowances and benefits as per the Tamil Nadu Government rules, resulting in a competitive gross monthly salary. The specific gross salary will depend on the exact allowances applicable at the time of appointment.
