About the Recruitment
The Rail Wheel Factory (RWF), under the Ministry of Railways, has released a notification for the recruitment of Sportspersons against the Sports Quota for the year 2026-27. This recruitment drive aims to fill 15 vacancies for posts in Pay Level-2 and Pay Level-1 through an open advertisement. Eligible candidates with recognized sports achievements are invited to apply offline.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet specific educational qualifications and sports norms to be eligible for the respective posts.

Sports Norms for Level-2 (GP 1900)
Candidates must have achieved one of the following:
- Represented the Country in any Category-B Championships/events.
- At least 3rd position in any Category-C Championships/events.
- At least 3rd position in Senior/Youth/Junior National Championships.
- At least 3rd position in National Games organized under the aegis of the Indian Olympic Association.
- At least 3rd Position in All India Inter University Championship organized under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities.
- 1st Position in Federation Cup Championships (Senior Category).
Additional norms for Cricket (Men) in Level-2:
- Representation in Main Indian Seniors Team in 2 Test Matches/Limited Overs One Day International Matches/Twenty-20 Matches. OR
- Representation of India-A and India U-19 Team in 2 Test Matches / 2 Limited Overs One Day International Matches / 2 Twenty-20 Over Matches. OR
- Quarter Finalist in Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter State Group Championships (Except Plate group) OR
- Participation in Senior/ U-23/U-19 All India Inter Zonal Championship OR
- Participation in Senior/U-23/U-19 Challenger Trophy.
For Hockey (Men) in Level-2:
- Participation in International Tournaments (Senior or Junior) of four or more nations.
- Semi-finalist in Senior National Championships.
For Badminton (Men and Women) in Level-2:
- Current Annual All India Ranking: Upto 20th Position (Seniors), Upto 06th Position (Youth/Juniors).
- Current Annual World Ranking: Upto 70th Position (Seniors), Upto 50th Position (Juniors).
For Table Tennis (Men and Women) in Level-2:
- Current Annual All India Ranking: Upto 20th Position (Seniors), Upto 06th Position (Juniors/Youth).
For Kabaddi (Men) in Level-2:
- Junior National Kabaddi Championship (under-20) with weight below 85 kgs at the time of trial.
Sports Norms for Level-1 (GP 1800)
Candidates must have achieved one of the following:
- Represented the Country in any Category-C Championships/events.
- At least 3rd Position in Federation Cup Championships (Senior Category).
- Represented a State or equivalent Unit (except in marathon and cross country) with at least 8th position in Senior National Championships only.
For Hockey (Men) in Level-1:
- Possessing any of the norms mentioned for Level-2 Hockey (Men).
For Football (Men) in Level-1:
- Junior National Football Championship for B C Roy Trophy (under-19).
For Kabaddi (Men) in Level-1:
- Junior National Kabaddi Championship (under-20) with weight below 85 kgs at the time of trial.
Age Limit and Relaxation
The age of candidates will be reckoned as on 01 January 2027. The minimum age is 18 years and the maximum age is 25 years. Candidates must have been born between 02 January 2002 and 01 January 2009 (both dates inclusive). No age relaxation is permissible for any category.
Application Fee and Payment Method
The application fee varies by category and is payable via Indian Postal Order (IPO) or Demand Draft (DD).
- For General/OBC candidates: Rs. 500/- (Rs. 400/- will be refunded upon appearing for the trials).
- For SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen/Minorities/Economically Backward Classes (EBCs): Rs. 250/- (The full amount of Rs. 250/- will be refunded upon appearing for the trials).
The fee must be paid in the form of a crossed Indian Postal Order (IPO) or Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favour of "Principal Financial Adviser (PFA), Rail Wheel Factory, Yelahanka, Bangalore-560 064," payable at Bangalore. IPOs/DDs issued before the notification date or after the closing date will not be accepted.
Selection Process
The selection process for RWF Sportsperson Recruitment 2026 involves multiple stages to assess candidates' sports skills, achievements, and educational qualifications.
- Document Verification and Trials: All eligible candidates will be called for document verification and trials. This stage assesses game skill, physical fitness, and coach's observations, carrying a maximum of 40 marks.
- Assessment of Recognized Sports Achievements: Candidates' recognized sports achievements will be evaluated for a maximum of 50 marks as per the specified norms.
- Educational Qualification Assessment: Educational qualifications will be assessed for a maximum of 10 marks.
- Minimum Qualifying Marks: Candidates must secure a minimum of 65 marks for Level-2 posts and 60 marks for Level-1 posts out of a total of 100 marks to be considered for further recruitment.
- Merit-Based Appointment: The final offer of appointment will be based purely on merit. In case of a tie in marks, preference will be given to the younger candidate.
- Medical Examination: Selected sportspersons must fulfill the minimum medical norms prescribed for the post they are appointed to.
- Service Bond and Probation: Appointed candidates will be required to sign a service bond for a period of five years and will undergo a probation period of two years. Performance during probation will be reviewed, and unsatisfactory performance may lead to extension of probation or termination of services.
Exam Pattern and Syllabus
There is no written examination for this recruitment. The selection is based on trials, sports achievements, and educational qualifications. The distribution of marks is as follows:

Pay Scale and Benefits
Selected candidates will be appointed in the Pay Matrix as per RS(RP) Rules 2016.
- Level-2 posts (GP 1900): Technician Gr.III, Junior Clerk/Accounts Clerk.
- Level-1 posts (GP 1800): Sportsperson.
The specific gross monthly salary will be as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) Pay Matrix for the respective levels. Sportspersons recruited as Junior Clerk/Accounts Clerk must pass a type-writing test within four years of appointment to receive regular increments.
How to Apply — Step by Step
Candidates must apply offline using the prescribed application format (Annexure-I) available on the Rail Wheel Factory website.
- Download Application Form: Visit the official RWF website (www.rwf.indianrailways.gov.in) and download the application form (Annexure-I) and other annexures.
- Print and Fill: Print the application form on good quality, white A-4 size paper (210 X 297 mm). Fill in all required information in your own handwriting using a blue ballpoint pen, either in English or Hindi.
- Affix Photograph: Affix one recent passport-size colour photograph (4 cm x 5 cm), preferably not older than 3 months. The photo should clearly show the full face, without cap or coloured glasses, and should not be attested.
- Sign and Thumb Impression: Sign at the prescribed places and provide a clear Left Hand Thumb Impression (LTI) in the application form.
- Physical Identification Marks: Clearly mention two marks of physical identification (e.g., a mole or scar).
- Payment of Fee: Arrange for the application fee via crossed Indian Postal Order (IPO) or Demand Draft (DD) as specified, drawn in favour of "Principal Financial Adviser (PFA), Rail Wheel Factory, Yelahanka, Bangalore-560 064," payable at Bangalore.
- Enclose Certificates: Attach self-attested copies of all required certificates, including educational qualification, caste, sports achievements, date of birth, minority income certificate (if applicable), and proof of identity (PAN card, Aadhar card, Driving Licence, etc.).
- Address the Envelope: Write "Application against Sports Quota (Open Advertisement) dated 25.07.2026 - Recruitment for the year 2026-27" on top of the sealed envelope.
- Submit Application: Send the completed application form along with all enclosures by post to 'The Assistant Personnel Officer', Personnel Department, Rail Wheel Factory (Ministry of Railways), Administrative Building, Yelahanka, Bangalore 560064. Alternatively, candidates can drop their applications directly in the Drop Box located at the Personnel Department office premises (2nd Floor) at the mentioned address.
- Deadline: Ensure your application reaches the office on or before 24 August 2026 (17:00 hrs). For residents of North Eastern states, Jammu & Kashmir, Lahaul & Spiti District, Pangi Sub-Division, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Lakshwadeep, the deadline is 31 August 2026 (17:00 hrs).

- 10th Standard/Matriculation/Secondary Examination Certificate (for Date of Birth proof).
- Educational Qualification Certificates (10th Pass, 12th Pass, ITI, NAC, etc.).
- Sports Achievement Certificates (for achievements on or after 01.04.2024).
- Caste Certificate (SC/ST/OBC) in prescribed format, if applicable.
- Minority Income Certificate in prescribed format (Annexure-D), if claiming fee exemption.
- Discharge Certificate for Ex-Servicemen, if applicable.
- Indian Postal Order (IPO) or Demand Draft (DD) for the application fee.
- Proof of Identity (PAN card, Aadhar Card, Voter Identity Card, Passport, or Driving License).
- Two marks of physical identification.
- Left Hand Thumb Impression.
- Recent passport-size colour photograph.
