The Department of Posts (India Post), operating under the Ministry of Communications, has issued a notification for the India Post Staff Car Driver Recruitment 2026. Eligibility Criteria for India Post Staff Car Driver
Eligibility for the Staff Car Driver positions is restricted to serving Central Government employees, with preference given in the following order:
First Preference: Department of Posts Employees
- Candidates must be regular Dispatch Riders (Group C) or Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) (Group C) within the Department of Posts.
- They should be in Pay Matrix Level-1 (₹18,000–₹56,900 as per 7th CPC).
- Applicants must possess a valid driving licence for both Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) and Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV).
- Competence in driving will be assessed through a mandatory driving test.
Second Preference: Employees from Other Central Government Ministries
This category applies if suitable candidates are not found from the Department of Posts.
- Officials must hold the post of Dispatch Rider on a regular basis, or be regular Group C employees in Pay Matrix Level-1 (₹18,000–₹56,900) in other Central Government Ministries.
- They must possess a valid driving licence for LMV and HMV.
- Applicants should have knowledge of motor mechanism, enabling them to perform minor vehicle repairs.
- A minimum of three years of experience in driving Light and Heavy Motor Vehicles is required.
- Candidates must have passed the 10th standard from a recognized Board or institute.
- Desirable Qualification: Three years of service as a Home Guard or Civil Volunteer.
Third Preference: Armed Forces Personnel
- Armed Forces personnel who are due to retire or be transferred to the reserve within one year are eligible.
- They must possess the necessary experience and qualifications for the Staff Car Driver role.
- Such candidates will initially be appointed on deputation until their release from the Armed Forces, after which they may be considered for re-employment.
Age Limit for Staff Car Driver Posts
For appointment by deputation or absorption, the maximum age limit for candidates is
56 years. This age calculation will be based on the closing date for the receipt of applications. The application proforma also requires age calculation as of September 30, 2026.

The selected Staff Car Drivers will receive pay as per the 7th Central Pay Commission:

Selection Process
The selection for India Post Staff Car Driver positions will be based on a comprehensive assessment:
- Driving Test and Trade Test: Candidates will undergo a driving test and a trade test. These tests are designed to evaluate the applicant's proficiency in driving both Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) and Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV). The tests will follow the pattern and syllabus prescribed by the Directorate (vide letter No. F.No.08-01/2019-SPN-I dated 17.06.2022).
The final allocation of the division (Bengaluru or Mysuru) will be determined by the competent authority based on the merit list from these tests.

- Attested photocopies of Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APAR) for the last five years (2020-21 to 2024-25), with each page attested by a Gazetted Officer where applicable.
- Experience certificate for driving LMV and HMV vehicles for a minimum of three years, attested by a Gazetted Officer.
- Valid driving licence for LMV and HMV, attested by a Gazetted Officer.
- 10th standard certificate, attested by a Gazetted Officer.
- Caste certificate, if applicable (for SC/ST candidates, verification will occur at a later stage).
