About the IIT Jammu Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026

The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu has released an advertisement for the recruitment of Junior Research Fellows (JRF) for a project titled "Low-cost Prosthetics Design and Fabrication using Advanced Textile and Composites Technology." This project is sanctioned by the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) and offers an opportunity for qualified candidates to contribute to cutting-edge research.

Vacancy Details

A total of 2 positions are available for the Junior Research Fellow role under this project.

Eligibility Criteria and Qualifications

Candidates applying for the Junior Research Fellow position at IIT Jammu must meet the following educational qualifications and criteria:

• Option 1: M.Tech. / M.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Machine Design, Polymer Science, Composites, Engineering Design, or related streams. Additionally, candidates must hold a B.Tech./B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Polymer Science and Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks (or 6.5/10.0 CGPA). A valid GATE score is preferable.
• Option 2: B.Tech. / B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, or related streams with a minimum of 60% marks (or 6.5/10.0 CGPA) throughout their academic career, starting from Class XII. A mandatory valid GATE score is required.
• Option 3: Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Polymer Science, Materials Science, or Materials Technology. A mandatory valid GATE score or NET Exam is required.

Note: Candidates who fulfill the essential educational qualifications but do not possess a valid GATE/NET qualification may also apply. If selected, they will be appointed as Project Associate-I/II, with a fellowship of ₹25,000/- or ₹28,000/- per month plus 16% HRA, as per applicable guidelines.

Age Limit

The upper age limit for Junior Research Fellow (JRF) candidates is 35 years. Age relaxation rules apply for reserved categories:

• SC/ST/OBC/Women and Physically Handicapped candidates are eligible for an age relaxation of up to 5 years.

Salary and Fellowship

The selected candidates will receive a consolidated monthly salary as follows:

• Junior Research Fellow (JRF): INR 31,000/- plus 16% House Rent Allowance (HRA) as applicable.
• Project Associate-I/II (for non-GATE/NET candidates): INR 25,000/- or INR 28,000/- per month plus 16% HRA.

The initial duration of the position is 3 months, which may be extended based on performance or until the project concludes, whichever is earlier.

Job Profile

The selected Junior Research Fellow will be responsible for numerical modeling of composite materials and conducting mechanical testing on composite materials.

Desirable Qualifications

Candidates with the following skills and experience will be preferred:

• Sound knowledge of programming languages such as C/C++, Python, and MATLAB.
• Experience in working with Finite Element software like ABAQUS and Ansys.
